N. Mich gets Designated 2-1-1 Service

Feb. 6, 2013

The Michigan Public Service Commission has designated Community Access Line of the Lakeshore, Inc. as the 2-1-1 answering point for 36 exchanges in seven northern Michigan counties, including Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska and Leelanau. The abbreviated dialing number allows callers to reach community resource and referral answering points. In 2011, some 480,000 calls were made to 211 in Michigan, with questions related to utility assistance being the number one reason for calls.
