NFL Player New Co-Owner of Local Winery
May 29, 2014
National Football League (NFL) Center Kyle Cook - formerly a starter for the Cincinnati Bengals - has become the new co-owner of Chateau de Leelanau in Leelanau County. Current owner Matt Gregory purchased the winery in 2009 with family business partners, whom Cook bought out to create a partnership with Gregory.
The two men met after Cook, a Michigan native, and his wife became frequent customers at the winery on West Bayshore Drive. "I'm excited to have Kyle as a partner in the winery," says Gregory. "He's easy to work with, and our enthusiasm, drive and determination are well-matched."
Cook, who is currently a free agent in the NFL, will take an active role in the operations of the winery. "At 31, I'm approaching retirement from the NFL," Cook says. "I'm excited for the opportunity for a second career that I'm equally passionate about."
The duo have plans for several new additions to Chateau de Leelanau and its tasting room, including expanding the company's cider line and introducing special events like Classic Car Nights and Saturday BBQs.
