NMC Announces Candidates For Board Vacancy, Will Appoint New Trustee Monday Night

By Craig Manning | June 23, 2025

Northwestern Michigan College (NMC) has released a list of six candidates who will be considered to fill the Board of Trustees seat recently vacated by former trustee Chris Bott. Bott, who had served on the NMC board for a decade, announced earlier this month that he was resigning effective immediately, citing personal reasons. The NMC board will appoint his successor at a meeting scheduled for this evening (Monday), and that person will serve out the remainder of Bott’s term, which runs through the end of 2028.

Bott’s resignation prompted NMC to put out a call for applicants who would be interested in serving on the board. Applicants were required to be registered voters in Grand Traverse County, and to be able to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the non-compensated trustee seat. On Monday morning, the college announced that it had received applications from six eligible candidates, including:

Brad Akers, Traverse City
Lance Boehmer, Traverse City
Myk Garn, Interlochen
Jody Lundquist, Traverse City
Leah Moskovitz, Traverse City
Kevin Query. Traverse City

To ensure compliance with the Michigan Open Meetings Act, the NMC Board of Trustees will interview all six candidates and decide which person to appoint at an open-to-the-public meeting, scheduled for this evening at 5:30pm. The meeting will take place in rooms 106 and 107 of the Timothy J. Nelson Innovation Center, located on NMC's Front Street campus. It will also be livestreamed on NMC’s YouTube channel. A full agenda and meeting packet for tonight’s meeting is available here.
