NMC Band Set to Celebrate 35th

April 21, 2014

The Concert Band of Northwestern Michigan College will celebrate 35 years of music by local musicians and college students with a concert on Tues., Apr. 29, at 8 p.m. at the Dennos Museum's Milliken Auditorium. The idea for a community band came from Walter Ross, a part-time faculty member at NMC in the fall of 1968. For ten years this community band was comprised largely of college students and a few community members. In the fall of 1979, the group came under the umbrella of the college and the NMC Community Band was formed. The group of 65 musicians, now known as the Concert Band, is currently led by Patricia Brumbaugh. Past conductors, including Ross, Michael Eagan, John Beery and Tom Riccobono, will lead the band during the anniversary concert. Tickets are available at the door, $10 for adults, $5 for seniors & children.
