Oakwood Proper Burgers has announced a fundraiser with a unique goal: selling 1,000 burgers in a single day on Saturday, April 11 to benefit Bergstrom's Burgers owner Tim Bergstrom, who is undergoing intensive cancer treatments.
In what the restaurant is describing as a "show of industry solidarity," Oakwood Proper Burgers has pledged to donate all proceeds from the event’s sales to help the Bergstrom family cover medical expenses and recovery costs. Oakwood will opens its doors at its East Eighth Street location at 8am on April 11 and keep the challenge going all day long until 10pm.
While Oakwood and Bergstrom’s are technically competitors, "this event highlights the deep bond within the small business community," according to the restaurant.
"Tim isn't just a fellow business owner; he’s a husband, a father, and a provider for his community," says Oakwood Proper Burgers owner Leslie Bilbey. "We wanted to turn our grills into a force for good. If we can hit 1,000 burgers, it’s a win for Tim and a testament to what this community can do when we come together."
Customers are encouraged to arrive early. "Whether ordering for a family lunch or a large office spread, every burger purchased brings the community closer to the goal," accordign to Oakwood. "For those unable to attend in person, gift cards are available to purchase that will contribute to the goal."
