One-Year-Old Hospitalized After Car Crashes Into Pond

A one-year-old boy has been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a woman drove off Bunker Hill Road into a pond Monday.

According to the Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office, a 27-year-old Acme Township woman was seen by witnesses suddenly leaving the roadway and entering a field on the north side of Bunker Hill Road. She drove through the field and crashed into a pond.

Responders broke into the vehicle to pull out the woman and child, who was fastened in the back seat. Two county deputies were treated for minor glass cuts at Munson Medical Center, while two GT Metro firemen also sustained cuts and glass scrapes during the extraction. The driver was taken to Munson with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Sheriff's Office said alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash, which is still under active investigation.
