Pier Location Determined

Nov. 28, 2014

The location for a proposed public pier in West Grand Traverse Bay has been confirmed through a public input process. Participants overwhelmingly favored placing the structure on the west side of the Boardman River mouth in downtown Traverse City. Locations on the east side of the mouth as well as near the Open Space were also considered, but ultimately rejected.

City Planning and Engineering Assistant Missy Luick says project consultants will be “coming up with more detailed design for (the chosen) location” for the public to review at a December 11 workshop session. “That (meeting) will be for the public to do some design work to further refine and explore ideas on programming and what (the pier) looks like and feels like,” says Luick. Updates about the pier and upcoming public workshops can be viewed online here.
