Road Reconstruction Project Underway At Historic Barns Park

By Beth Milligan | Sept. 10, 2020

The City of Traverse City, the joint Traverse City and Garfield Township Recreational Authority, and Elmer’s Crane and Dozer have begun a road reconstruction project at the Historic Barns Park near The Village at Grand Traverse Commons.

Work for the fall season is expected to continue through the week of November 15. The project limits are within the property boundaries of Historic Barns Park on the southern end of the Commons. The work includes new construction and some relocation of the driveways and pedestrian pathways inside the park, as well as the introduction of improved stormwater controls.

Phases of the project will require intermittent closures of the park’s main entrance off Silver Drive, as well as sections of the paved non-motorized trail that runs through the park. Visitors are encouraged to access the park via Red Drive and to heed signage and barricades inside the park. The paved shoulders of Silver Lake Road between the signalized intersections at Silver Drive and Copper Ridge Drive can be used as an alternative trail route. Project updates will be posted online here.
