State Theatre Closed Until Further Notice

By Craig Manning | Feb. 6, 2026

After cancelling a few movie showtimes earlier this week, the Traverse City State Theatre announced on Thursday that it has sustained damage due to a roof leak and will need to be closed until further notice.

“The State Theatre roof sprung a leak this week,” the movie theater announced in both a Facebook post and an email to subscribers. “Unfortunately, water damage was sustained inside the building. We need time to ensure the theatre is clean, clear, and safe before we reopen.”

The announcement directed theatergoers to keep an eye on the State Theatre website “for updates as information becomes available.”

The news came after the State cancelled its weekly TCFF Tuesdays event this week (a screening of the 2025 film Weapons), as well as a Community Night showing of The Wiz on Wednesday evening. As part of the cancellations, a Saturday showing of the 2025 Best Animated Feature Oscar winner Flow has also been cancelled.
