Summer Shows Announced with Nickel Creek, Andrew Bird, Goo Goo Dolls

By Beth Milligan | Jan. 29, 2024

Nickel Creek and Andrew Bird will perform at a joint concert at Interlochen Center for the Arts on July 15, while the Goo Goo Dolls will make an appearance at the National Cherry Festival in Traverse City on July 3, according to concert announcements Monday.

Nickel Creek and Andrew Bird (pictured) announced they will appear at Interlochen's Kresge Auditorium on Monday, July 15. The appearance will be part of a joint tour with the two acts called the "Up, Up, & Away Summer Tour '24." Nickel Creek is a Grammy-winning bluegrass band consisting of siblings Sara Watkins and Sean Watkins as well as Chris Thile, who is also in the Punch Brothers and hosted Live From Here (formerly A Prairie Home Companion) from 2016 to 2020. Andrew Bird is a Grammy-nominated indie rock artist who has released 16 studio albums and several live albums and EPs. Known for his unique style of violin playing - accompanied by loop and effect pedals, whistling, and voice - Bird was nominated for Best Folk Album at the 2020 Grammys for his album My Finest Work Yet. He has also appeared on the television show Fargo.

A ticket on-sale date for the Nickel Creek and Andrew Bird show has not yet been announced. Interlochen Center for the Arts Director of Communications Maureen Oleson says Interlochen plans to announce two shows on February 19 at 10am, with tickets for those two shows going on sale February 23. However, Interlochen isn't naming the artists for those two shows yet. After February 19, Interlochen is planning on weekly lineup announcements (as shows are confirmed) on Mondays continuing into early May, Oleson says. The Ticker previously broke the news that Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit will perform at Interlochen this summer on June 21, as will Jason Mraz on July 16.

The National Cherry Festival announced Monday that chart-topping rock band the Goo Goo Dolls will perform on Wednesday, July 3 at the Pepsi Bay Side Music Stage. The Grammy-nominated group has sold over 15 million records worldwide and holds the all-time radio record for most Top Ten singles with 16 number-one and Top Ten hits, including Slide, Black Balloon, Broadway, Iris, and Here is Gone.

Tickets for the Goo Goo Dolls show go on sale Friday, February 2 at 9am online or at 888-212-3258. Tickets are $50 for general admission or $75 for reserved tickets. The festival's VIP Deck Experience, featuring complimentary adult beverages, an elevated view of the Bay Side Music Stage, and a chef-prepared buffet meal, will also return this year. A limited number of VIP Deck passes will be available for the Goo Goo Dolls at $175 each.
