By Beth Milligan | March 4, 2020

The IRONMAN 70.3 Traverse City race took home numerous awards in the 2019 Athlete Choice Awards, based on survey feedback from over 60,000 participating athletes. The awards were announced Tuesday.

In the 70.3 category, Traverse City was picked #1 in the world in the "Will Recommend to a Friend" category, beating destinations in Sweden, Australia, and France, among others. Traverse City was also named the #1 city in North America for "Overall Host City Experience" (6th in the world). In other categories, Traverse City was selected #3 in the "Will Attend Next Year" category, #3 in the "Overall Swim" category, and #10 in the "Overall Venue Experience" category.

The 2019 IRONMAN 70.3 was the first year the event was held in Traverse City and was the company's fastest-selling 70.3 competition in the world. The 2020 event - scheduled for August 30 - is already sold out, with planning underway to finalize this year's race course and logistics.
