TC Man Arrested For Taking Upskirt Photos

Sept. 7, 2016

A 30-year-old Traverse City man is facing two felony charges after allegedly using his cell phone to take "upskirt" photos of multiple victims.

Brandan James Sawyer (pictured) was arrested on August 26 on charges including using a computer to commit a crime and capturing/distributing images of an unclothed person. The Leelanau County Sheriff's Office began an investigation into Sawyer on August 20 when a female victim told deputies she believed a male employee at Hansen's Grocery Store had taken a photograph using his cell phone pointed under her skirt.

Deputies located Sawyer and interviewed him, at which time he confessed. A forensic analysis of Sawyer's cell phone turned up multiple "upskirt" videos and photos of other victims. Sawyer was also in possession of images of a woman in a bathroom at a Leelanau County residence.

Sawyer is currently out on bond and is scheduled for a preliminary court examination on September 20. If anyone believes they have been victimized by the suspect, they are asked to contact the Leelanau County Sheriff's Office at 231-256-8800.
