By Beth Milligan | Aug. 22, 2017

An 18-year-old Traverse City man was arrested following an unarmed robbery of a Shell gas station early Monday morning.

Authorities responded to the station at the intersection of Garfield and Hammond roads after receiving a report of a robbery at 1am. A Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office deputy and Traverse City Police Department officer arrived at the scene before the suspect could leave the store. According to an investigation, the man entered the store and approached the counter, making contact with the attendant. The man then went behind the counter and opened the cash drawer and took money from it. The suspect was still behind the counter when authorities arrived.

The man, who did not have a weapon, was taken into custody without incident. He was taken to Grand Traverse County Jail on a charge of unarmed robbery. No one was injured during the incident.
