"The Box" For Sale

Aug. 1, 2015

The historic Cigar Factory building – known as "The Box" – at the corner of Eighth and Boardman in Traverse City is on the market for $2.3 million. Local entrepreneurs Matt and Victoria Sutherland purchased the 12,800 square-foot building, formerly home to the Fitness Center, in 2011 and turned it into high-end live/work space. They operated their publishing companies – Spirituality & Health and ForeWord Reviews – out of the upper level and turned the main level into a residence. The Sutherlands also opened up the main level as an events venue for a period of time, with cooking classes and art openings.

The property is listed with Shawn Smith of Coldwell Banker Schmidt.

VIctoria tells The Ticker, "We feel like we finished our job here and would like to find a new project. It was incredibly rewarding to bring an abandoned corner and historically significant property back to life."
