Thirty Years, 1,500 Issues -- And Something New

May 6, 2021

Northern Express is celebrating 30 years in print next week and, along with the anniversary, will for the first time deliver its insights, features, event calendar, and news to its 90,000 readers via email. The Express (The Ticker’s sister publication) will still be available at nearly 700 physical locations throughout 14 counties, but the new twice weekly email will deliver inside stories about the arts, events, food, drink, people, and places that make northern Michigan home. Subscribers will receive a “Monday Morning” email to start the week, and a “Weekender” email on Thursdays to help plan the upcoming weekend. To make sure you’re on the list, email here. Like the paper, the emails are free.

As for the anniversary, the paper has published some 1,500 consecutive weeks, covering everything from new and emerging restaurants to small-town politics and leaders to art fairs and festivals. Five presidents, countless controversies and a dramatically changed region later, the Express is still going strong in print and online. And if you want your very own print version delivered to your actual mailbox each week, you may purchase a print subscription here
