Tutor Faces Criminal Sex Charges

Dec. 16, 2013

A music tutor who taught vocal lessons to Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) students was arrested Friday afternoon for allegedly having sexual contact with a student. 33-year-old Jayme Kratky of Traverse City is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old female student from TC West Senior High School this past summer at a private residence in the city. While 16 is the age of consent in Michigan, state law prohibits teachers, tutors, administrators and other individuals working in schools from having sexual contact with students under the age of 18.

Officials at TCAPS - which does not employ Kratky - became aware of the allegations Friday morning and alerted local police. Kratky is currently being lodged at the Grand Traverse County Correctional Facility. He faces charges of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.
