By Beth Milligan | Feb. 1, 2023

Two Garfield Township residents were recently arrested in a drug bust in which authorities seized 59 grams of crystal methamphetamine and 19 grams of fentanyl, among other drugs, according to the Traverse Narcotics Team.

TNT detectives received information on January 25 from members of the Grand Traverse County Interdiction Team about ongoing drug activity at a residence in Garfield Township. Detectives conducted surveillance on the home during the early morning hours and gained information that led to a search warrant being authorized.

TNT members and deputies with the Interdiction Team conducted a search of the residence and took two people into custody. One of the suspects was actively using illegal narcotics when detectives entered the residence. Inside the home were 59 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 19 grams of fentanyl, and other drugs that were sent to a forensic laboratory for testing.

Brigett Urick, 51 years old, and her boyfriend, 27-year-old Nicholas Smith, were arrested and lodged
at the Grand Traverse County Jail. They are both being charged with possession with intent to
deliver fentanyl, possession with the intent to deliver methamphetamine, and maintaining a drug
house. They were arraigned on January 28 in 86th District Court. Urick was given a bond of $10,000 or 10 percent, and Smith was given a bond of $20,000 or 10 percent.
