Cass Street Bridge Work Starts Monday

With construction already underway on the Park Street bridge in downtown Traverse City, work will start on a second bridge - the South Cass Street bridge - Monday.

City and Anlaan Corporation crews will be rehabilitating the bridge starting Monday, with work expected to be complete by November 13. Work will include removal of the existing bridge wearing surface, arch fill, sidewalk and railings, replacing the arch fill and wearing surface, construction of new sidewalks and railings, and bridge approach street work. The bridge will be closed to all traffic including pedestrians for the duration of the project.

Detours will be provided utilizing East Front Street, East State Street, South Union Street, Lake Avenue, and East Eighth Street. A pedestrian detour will be provided utilizing East State Street, South Union Street, and Lake Avenue. The Boardman River will be closed to traffic around the bridge during weekdays and will be open on weekends. 

Construction on a third downtown bridge, East Eighth Street, is expected to start in July. The city has released a map (attached) showing detour routes for all three bridge projects.
