Cass Street Closure Starts Monday

By Beth Milligan | May 16, 2026

The 100 block of Cass Street between State Street and Front Street will be closed starting Monday for a crosswalk replacement project. Work is expected to last through June 26.

The redesigned crosswalk will have new pedestrian-friendly bumpouts and improved aprons on either side connecting to the alley. The Traverse City Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is covering the project cost of just under $180,000 with TIF 97 funds https://www.traverseticker.com/news/street-sewer-projects-okrs-land-agreement-on-city-agenda/.

During construction, the alleys between Front and State Streets will be closed to through traffic from Union to Park. Deliveries will need to follow the detoured route and access from side streets. The sidewalks along the east and west sides of Cass Street will be closed at the alley for reconstruction. Signage will be in place for detours.

The entrances to all businesses will be maintained at all times. Work is weather dependent.
