Date Set For TC Central Track Dedication

By Craig Manning | July 1, 2026

Traverse City Central High School has announced the date for the official renaming of its track and field facility. The track will be dedicated in honor of longtime head coach John Lober, with the ceremony set for 11am on Sunday, July 12.

The Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) Board of Education voted in May to rename the facility after Lober, in recognition of the more than half a century he spent as Central’s boys head track coach. The dedication is the latest honor in a long list of them for Lober, who has also been inducted into the National High School Coaches Hall of Fame.

The dedication ceremony, which will be held at the entrance to the track facility, is open to the public and “serves to recognize Coach Lober's incredible legacy and his profound impact on our athletic community.” Following the ceremony, the facility will henceforth be known as the John P. Lober Track & Field Stadium.
