Elk Rapids Cinema Announces Temporary Closure

By Craig Manning | Sept. 5, 2025

Starting today (Friday), and running through next Thursday, September 11, the Elk Rapids Cinema will be closed “for staff training, facility deep-cleaning, and equipment updates,” the theater announced in a press release this week. The brief pause follows the theater’s recent run of the Liam Neeson-starring comedy, The Naked Gun.

The Elk Rapids Cinema will reopen Friday, September 12 with showings of Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, the third film in the Downton Abbey franchise, which originated as a television series in 2010.

Despite the pause at the theater, Village Radio 99.7 FM – the radio station housed at the Elk Rapids Cinema – “will continue broadcasting as usual – bringing you the voices, music, and stories of Elk Rapids, woven together with the energy of Detroit’s thriving arts scene,” according to the press release. Village Radio is one of northern Michigan’s newest radio stations, having just begun broadcasting on June 1 of this year.
