By Beth Milligan | May 22, 2026

Contractors for the City of Traverse City will be closing South Elmwood Avenue between West Front and West Eleventh streets to all through traffic for a mill-and-fill project starting Tuesday (May 26) and continuing through June 12.

The intersection of Medical Campus Drive and South Elmwood Avenue will be closed to all traffic for the duration of the project. A detour will be provided using West Front, Division, and West Eleventh streets. Parking will be prohibited on South Elmwood Avenue for the duration of the project.

Northbound Division Street traffic seeking to access the Munson ER will be directed to Sixth Street. Southbound Division Street traffic will use Seventh Street to get to the ER. Elmwood will remain open between Sixth and Seventh streets for emergency access.

Sidewalk curb ramps are being replaced to improve ADA accessibility at the intersection of Sixth Street and South Elmwood Avenue. The crosswalks within the work zone will be closed for the duration of the project to facilitate the construction. A pedestrian detour will be provided using Seventh Street, South Spruce Street, West Front Street, South Madison Street, Sixth Street, and Beaumont Place.
