By Beth Milligan | May 27, 2026

A 34-year-old Fife Lake man is facing multiple charges after being found in possession of drugs and over $1,000 in stolen tools from Home Depot during a traffic stop Monday.

According to the Michigan State Police, Tyler Sommer was stopped in Garfield Township at 5:20pm on Marketplace Circle for an equipment violation. A preliminary investigation indicated that Sommer was in possession of suspected heroin and Xanax. Further investigation led to the discovery of over $1,000 in stolen tools from Home Depot. The passenger, a 43-year-old Manton man, was arrested for an outstanding warrant.

Troopers returned the stolen items to Home Depot and lodged Sommer at the Grand Traverse County
Jail. He was arraigned Wednesday in 86th District Court on charges including three different counts related to controlled substances and one count of first-degree retail fraud. He was given a $10,000 cash or surety bond and is due back in court on June 16 at 11am.
