HBA Awards Building Trades Scholarships

The Home Builders Association of the Grand Traverse Area has awarded $9,000 to eight local students working toward studies in the building trades. The HBA is doing so in recognition of the need for more workers in the construction industry. The following students received scholarship funds:

Corina Hurst – NMC student, Studies in Sustainable/Green Building & Architecture
Samuel Javed – NMC student, Studies in Construction Management
Emily Perkins – NMC student, Studies in Carpentry & Construction Management
Jonathan Reed – NMC student, Studies in Carpentry Technology
Austin Soto – Full time electrical apprentice and attending NMC electrical program.
Timothy Spires – NMC student, studying Construction Management
Zakary Washburn – Bellaire High School student, Career Tech Center Construction Trades. Planning to attend NMC Construction Management and Carpentry Technology in 2018
Dominic Weiss – NMC student, Studies in Carpentry Technology

The announcement of the scholarships was made at the HBA Scholarship Dinner on Wednesday, Oct. 18. The event brings the region’s building community together to focus on topics facing the construction industry, while raising scholarship dollars for students attending Northwestern Michigan College's construction programs. Since 1985, the HBA of the Grand Traverse Area has awarded 136 scholarships, equaling $95,900.00.

The Home Builders Association of the Grand Traverse Area, Inc. is a professional association of industry leaders representing the counties of Antrim, Benzie, Kalkaska, Leelanau and Grand Traverse.
