Health Dept Lifts Boardman Advisory Except Near Logan's Landing

By Beth Milligan | Aug. 27, 2026

After a sewer main break Tuesday that leaked several thousand gallons of raw sewage into the Boardman watershed off South Airport Road, the GT County Health Department sampled multiple spots along the lake and river Wednesday. Those results came back Thursday at safe levels in all but one spot, allowing the Health Department to lift a no-contact advisory for the Boardman except near Logan's Landing.

According to the Health Department, samples collected at multiple spots on the Boardman River north of Boardman Lake - as well as on the lake itself - met E. coli standards established by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) for Level 1 full-body contact. One sample collected in the source area of the release by Logan's Landing exceeded EGLE Level 2 standards, however.

As a precaution, the Health Department "recommends limiting contact with the water to below waist level within the area shaded on the map," according to the release. "Follow-up water samples will be collected today, August 27, from multiple locations within the shaded area. The Health Department will issue an update tomorrow, August 28, once the follow-up sampling results are available."
