North Ed Launches Survey To Inform Superintendent Search

By Craig Manning | Nov. 21, 2024

Northwest Education Services (North Ed) is seeking public feedback to help guide its search for a new superintendent. On Monday, the intermediate school district launched a new online community survey, which is “asking for input from district staff, students, and community members to assist [the North Ed board] in setting the criteria for the next Superintendent.”

Nick Ceglarek, North Ed’s superintendent since 2017, announced earlier this year that he will be retiring and leaving the district at the end of the current academic year. North Ed’s board is looking to hire Ceglarek’s replacement in the coming months, with the position carrying a tentative start date of July 1, 2025.

The North Ed board voted at November 5 meeting to engage the services of Michigan Leadership Institute (MLI), a Flint-based “leadership consulting organization committed to serving K-12 school districts and public institutions throughout Michigan,” to help conduct its superintendent search.

According to a press release from North Ed, MLI has since hosted “focus group sessions with a cross-sector of North Ed staff members, local school leaders, parents and other community members” to start gauging community priorities and concerns. The new online community survey is the next step in that process.

The survey invites respondents to provide short written answers to three different questions. Those queries are as follows:

1. What are the District Points of Pride for Northwest Education Services?

2. What are the future Challenges and Opportunities for Northwest Education Services?

3. What qualifications, experiences or skills should the next Superintendent bring to Northwest Education Services?

The survey can be accessed here and will remain open until November 25. All responses will be kept anonymous.
