A 23-year-old Bay City woman was arrested Wednesday after deputies tried to make a traffic stop in downtown Traverse City and she backed into a patrol car and then led authorities on a high-speed chase, going over 100 miles per hour on Munson Avenue/US-31 North before finally being stopped in Kalkaska County. 

Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office deputies tried to conduct a traffic stop at 10:50pm Wednesday on a vehicle associated with illegal drugs near Union and Twelfth streets in downtown Traverse City. The driver put her car in reverse and backed up, causing deputies to jump out of the way. She hit one of the patrol vehicles and then fled the scene. Deputies pursued the woman with their emergency lights and sirens on, which she ignored as she continued to flee on Eighth Street east to Munson Avenue/US-31 North. Deputies attempted multiple times to stop the woman, who was driving at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. 

The woman continued east on M-72 and drove into Kalkaska County. There, with assistance from the Kalkaska County Sheriff's Office and Michigan State Police, authorities were able to disable and stop the vehicle. The driver was arrested and lodged in Grand Traverse County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding, felonious assault, a parole absconder warrant, and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. 

Two passengers in the car who were from Saginaw, a 30-year-old woman and 33-year-old man, were both lodged in jail on charges related to illegal drugs. While a Sheriff's Office vehicle was damaged in the incident, no one sustained any injuries. 

The incident remains under investigation, according to the Sheriff's Office.
