By Beth Milligan | May 30, 2019

Traverse City police are investigating what they describe as a suspicious death after a man's body was discovered Wednesday near Boardman Lake.

A local man and woman were walking the Boardman Lake Trail at 4:40pm and had taken a foot path to the lake when they discovered a man's body lying on the ground near the lake shore and called 911. Authorities responded to the scene, close to the intersection of Centre Place and Sheffer Street, and officially declared the man deceased. According to the TCPD, the victim has been positively identified, but his name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The Michigan State Police Crime Lab was on-site Wednesday processing the scene, and an autopsy has been scheduled for today (Thursday) at Western Michigan University.

The TCPD described the man's death as suspicious, but did not elaborate further. The department did not release any additional details about the case.
