Bad news for northern Michiganders who've grown tired of seeing Traverse City get national attention. The region got another glowing writeup this week, this one from Business Insider. The article, published on Tuesday, July 27, praises TC as the “Napa of the Midwest.”

“Napa Valley is renowned for its exquisite wine, stunning scenery, and outdoor activities,” writes Amanda Adler, the journalist with the byline on the article. “But when I'm looking for a wine-fueled getaway, I skip the pricey (and often overcrowded) tasting rooms in Northern California and instead head for Traverse City, Michigan.”

Adler’s article goes on to praise Traverse City for its small-town atmosphere, natural wonders, outstanding wines, family- and dog-friendly breweries and cideries, and “lake views and picturesque wineries” that “offer all the beauty of Napa at a fraction of the cost.”

Unlike the most other spotlight articles about Traverse City that have been published by major outlets over the years, the Business Insider piece doesn’t highlight many specific businesses or destinations – though both Suttons Bay Ciders and the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore get shout-outs, and Historic Fishtown is shown in the lead photograph.
