Munson Medical Center Names New President

By Craig Manning | May 22, 2026

Nearly four months after Munson Healthcare announced the departure of former Munson Medical Center (MMC) President Joe Hurshe, the hospital has a new leader.

Munson announced Thursday that it has hired Joe Du Lac to serve as the new president of MMC, effective June 22. Du Lac comes to Traverse City from the Kalamazoo-based Bronson Healthcare Group, where he served as chief operating officer and system senior vice president for the Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. He succeeds Hurshe in the MMC job after a nationwide search by Munson.

Per a Munson press release, Du Lac “led a significant hospital transformation” in his time at Bronson, “reversing financial challenges, strengthening safety and quality outcomes, and elevating patient experience,” as well as driving “gains in surgical capacity, patient throughput, and workforce engagement.”

Du Lac’s resume also includes executive leadership stints with Trinity Health in New England and the Detroit Medical Center here in Michigan.

“Joe brings a collaborative leadership style and a proven ability to strengthen both culture and performance,” said Laura Glenn, Munson Healthcare’s chief operating officer. “His experience leading complex transformations and delivering meaningful results will be invaluable as we continue to advance care at MMC.”

Du Lac, who plans to relocate to Traverse City with his wife Beth, said he was “honored” to join the Munson Healthcare team, noting that he was “deeply impressed by the commitment, pride, and purpose of the people I met throughout the interview process. Munson is a special organization with a strong mission and tremendous opportunity ahead, and I look forward to building on that foundation with our physicians, caregivers and community.”

This hire marks the third president at MMC in three years; Hurshe was hired in March of 2024 to replace Matt Willie, who left the job in October 2023.
