A 28-year-old Copemish man was arrested after allegedly stealing a front-loader from an Interlochen construction site.
A preliminary investigation indicated the front-end loader was stolen in the early morning hours of September 29 from a construction site on Lyon Road, according to the Michigan State Police. The equipment was equipped with a GPS tracker, which allowed authorities to locate it approximately 17 miles away in Manistee County, backed into a wooded area and concealed by trees.
MSP personnel followed footprints from the scene to a seasonal home. "They observed that a garage on the property appeared to have been struck by industrial equipment, causing severe damage," according to MSP. Troopers also discovered a broken window. After making entry into the home, they found Justin Greenwood asleep on a couch. He was arrested without incident and lodged at the Grand Traverse County Jail.
Greenwood was arraigned October 1 in 86th District Court on the following charges:
> Larceny ($20,000 or more)
> Malicious destruction of personal property ($20,000 or more)
> Unlawful driving away of an automobile
The case remains ongoing. Because Greenwood traveled through several counties, additional charges may be authorized following prosecutorial review.
