Two Charged In Suttons Bay Overdose Death

By Beth Milligan | Nov. 28, 2017

Two individuals have been charged in connection to the overdose death last week of a Suttons Bay man.

Twenty-year-old Erin Grant of Suttons Bay and 21-year-old Preston Weaver of Milwaukee, Wisconsin are facing one count each of delivery of a controlled substance causing death after authorities found the body of 31-year-old Kevin Daniel Yannett of Suttons Bay last Wednesday. Leelanau County Sheriff's Office deputies and Suttons Bay Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the report of an unresponsive Yannett in the 600 block of South West Bay Shore Drive in Suttons Bay. Responders determined Yannett had overdosed on heroin and administered Narcan, an overdose-reversal drug. However, the attempt to revive Yannett was unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following an investigation, Grant and Weaver were identified as the suspects responsible for the delivery of the heroin involved in Yannett's death. The suspects were located by Leelanau County Sheriff's Office deputies with the assistance of Grand Traverse Band Tribal Police at a residence on Ki-Dah-Keh Road. Both suspects in the case were taken into custody at Leelanau County Jail.
