Two Teens Hospitalized, Adults Charged Following Underage Party

By Beth Milligan | Nov. 16, 2018

Two teens were transported to Munson Medical Center for treatment of possible alcohol poisoning following an underage drinking party in Leland Township.

Deputies responded to a residence on East Alpers Road Saturday just after 10pm on a report of underage drinking, the Leelanau County Sheriff's Office reported Thursday. Evidence of alcohol being consumed by minors was evident at the home, and several minors fled the residence on foot into adjacent orchards. Eventually, all of the juveniles were located. Three were intoxicated to a level that Leland Fire and Rescue had to provide treatment, and two were transported to Munson Medical Center. Marijuana was also confiscated from the home.

Deputies identified a 35-year-old man and 19-year-old woman as being in control of the home. A warrant request was sent to the Prosecutor's Office requesting charges against the two adults for hosting an underage drinking party. Eight minors, ranging in age from 15 years old to 20 years old, were cited for being in possession/consuming alcohol. The minors were from the Buckley, Thompsonville, Mesick, and Interlochen areas.
